Wow, I love this picture of the kids together. It's the best sibling picture so far! Things are settling down at home for the most part. Michael was able to get the garbage disposal in which means we have a dishwasher again! Megan seems to be adjusting pretty well. She tells us to "put him in bassinet" and when I ask if she likes her brother she says "yes...he cries some." She has been very helpful with getting me things while I nurse and to interact with him. Her favorite place seems to be when he is in the bouncer! Jacob continues to nurse every 2 hours which is exhausting but totally worth it. He is 3 weeks old tomorrow!

A Visit From Roxy!
Yesterday my friend from high school/college came for a visit. We haven't talked in a really long time an haven't seen each other in over a year. It was a great visit and fun to catch up. Megan vied for my attention for most of the ime but that was to be expected! Jacob enjoyed all the cuddle time of course!

Megan's Potty Trained!
Things are settling down a bit here. I am sleep deprived and still have a cough/nose issues but feeling a million times better than last week at this time! Michael goes back to work tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. Jacob seems to sleep good one night and not so good the next night so hopefully that will change soon! We have been watching a lot of basketball with March Madness going on right now so that's been fun, so far I am beating Michael by 8 points but that could change quickly!
In other news Megan is completely potty trained now! A while ago she stopped wanting to wear pull-ups for naptime and started staying dry during that time. Then she didn't want to wear a pull-up at night anymore either so after she was dry 7 days in a row she got to wear big girl panties to bed! She's had one accident since then and it's been a breeze because it was all her idea! Her timing is wonderful so we don't have to buy diapers for both kids! Jacob is going through diapers like crazy of course!

Springtime
The weather outside is gorgeous and it feels like spring is here (even tough I know we aren't finished with the cold yet!) Megan is really getting into the various plants and flowers starting to bloom. I love this picture of her that Michael took yesterday! My mom and Megan are planting a tomato plant too so that should be interesting!
Megan is getting more adventurous (with Daddy's help and Mommy staying away!). The last picture is her climbing up the very tall ladder on the playground set. She uses the rock climbing things and takes it 2 steps at a time. She does it all by herself, with someone there to spot her. Another thing for me to worry about!
Camping!
Michael decided that it was nice enough to camp last night and Megan has been talking about camping for a while now! So they pitched the tent in the backyard and camped! We tried this in the fall and Megan wouldn't sleep but last night she did so it was her first official camping experience! She came inside in the morning and said they talked and laughed a lot. She loved it and now wants to sleep outside every night!
Happy St. Pat's!

I Can't Believe This...
I just got off the phone with the pediatrician and she said the medicine is only for the symptoms of the flu and that it is a mild medication, safe to breastfeed baby Jacob. I nearly cried. She also said as long as I am washing my hands and not breathing right on him I can be around him. I just spent the entire weekend completely miserable away from him and Megan when I could have been with them. I feel compltely mislead. The breastfeeding thing alone is beyond frustrating. I'm just hoping and praying that he goes back to it after being on a bottle. Grrr. Everyone is asleep, Jacob included so I have nowhere but here to go with this information right now!

Jacob Update
Here are a couple of cute pictures that Michael took for me to see. Jacob is one week old already, it's really hard to believe. Because of this flu nonsense everything is still in chaos around the house. Our garbage disposal broke on Thursday so we can't use the dishwasher, we plan to order or pick up a new one soon but just need to find the time to do it!
Jacob is sleeping better at night already. We swaddle him only at night and it seems to work pretty well. When I was breastfeeding I would set the alarm every couple of hours to make sure he was eating enough and now that I'm pumping I have to continue to get up every 2 hours. However, lucky Michael gets to sleep because we are using formula right now and the baby doesn't have to be woken. Somehow that just doesn't seem fair!
Megan's Girly Side
Some of Megan's favorite things to do are playing outside and playing with her animals. Here is a picture of another side of her...being girly. She loves to have her toes painted and is very patient during the process. In the picture you can see she likes to play hairdresser which always includes at least 2-3 brushes/combs, lots of headbands, etc. She found the tiara in her dress up stuff and was able to put it in as well! Our little girl is certainly growing up!
More Jacob Pictures
Jacob is doing just great. He loves to be held all the time of course but that's okay! He sleeps great at night only getting up to eat and then back to sleep he goes! Things changed a bit yesterday, I came down with the flu, ulgh. I feel awful but the worst part about it is that I can't be around Jacob for at least 3-4 days until my symptoms go away. I can't breastfeed him either which is really frustrating. I am quarantined to the bedroom and only come out if I absolutely have to. Megan is cute and talks to me through the door often so that helps. We are all on medicine now and we are praying that Jacob doesn't catch this because he's too young for the medicine.
Michael is amazing. Yesterday he managed to take care of both Megan and Jacob day and night because my mom was gone for the day (who knew I'd end up with the flu the one day she leaves!). Last night mom said she'd play with Megan most of the day and Michael's comment was he wasn't sure if he wanted to give up his time with her. If it were me I would be jumping at the chance for a little sleep and relaxation, but not him! He said he's really enjoying his time with Jacob and getting to know the little guy. I have to make due with pictures for now but hopefully in a few days that will all change!

Jacob Has Arrived!
Jacob Michael arrived on Sunday March 8, 2009 at 2:14 pm. He weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. and is 21 in. long. I started having regular contractions Sunday morning around 6am (what I thought was 5am because we forgot about daylight savings!). When we got to the hospital I was already dialated to 5cm. My labor was really intense for a while until after 7cm when they came in and said because this is a VBAC (vaginal birth after ceserean) that I really should have an epidural just in case things change quickly so they wouldn't have to completely knock me out. At this point the contractions were way too intense with so many people around that I decided to just get it. After this it was just a waiting game until it was time to push. The delivery was like night and day with and without the drugs. Although we really wanted to have a natural childbirth, I think it all worked out exactly as it should have. The great thing is that it was a successful VBAC and I didn't have to get another ceserean so yeah. We are already back home and settling in nicely, the recovery so far is not too bad, nothing like before!
Megan loves being a big sister. She comes running anytime he cries. She was a trooper through this whole thing, she was at the hospital from the time we checked in (around 9:30am) until 5pm that day. Thanks Grandma Woodward for being patient with her and playing with her that whole time!
As far as Jacob is concerned he is very laid back so far. He sleeps a lot of course but yet we are still exhausted! It's amazing to finally meet him after all this time!

Baby Jacob's Room
The countdown is on to Baby D's arrival. We decided on a name, Jacob Michael. My due date it quickly approaching on March 14th. We will update the blog with info as we know it!
Baby Jacob's room is finally complete! It took over a month and lots of patience and help but it's finally finished! Thanks Norm and Sue for providing the paint and all the extra's for the room. Thanks also for your help with the painting and chair rail!
There were so many steps that it's hard to keep track of it all! But here is a quick run-down:
Sand the trim
Wipe the trim
Tape the trim
Paint the trim twice
Measure and mark how high we wanted the stripes to go
Paint the top part (khaki)
Paint the bottom part (light blue)
Allow the paint to dry for a week
Measure, mark, and tape off for the stripes
Use a credit card to really get the tape down so hopefully the paint doesn't bleed under
Paint the stripes (dark blue)
Paint the stripes
Paint the stripes
Paint the stripes (that's right, 4 coats!)
Take the tape off very carefully (yeah, it worked!)
Attempt to sand the chalkboard wall (definitely not the best idea we've had!)
Decide to plaster the wall...takes 2 times to get it good enough (by now we don't care!)
Sand the plaster
Prime the chalkboard wall
Paint the chalkboard wall (3 coats, 3 days)
Cure the chalkboard wall (basically covering the thing in chalk)
Get the chair rail (left Lowe's with it sticking out the back tied with Megan's necklace)
Paint the chair rail
Cut the chair rail (repeat many times)
Put up the chair rail
Fill the nail holes and such
Do the touch-up painting to the room
AHHHH, we are finally done. I'm not so sure we will take on a project like this in the future again but now that it's completely finished we love it!
Here are a few pictures of the room from before to after! Megan loves playing in there of course. She still sadly asks about her yellow paint that we covered up with the chalkboard wall. Fortunately she enjoys the chalkboard too much to get upset!
